May 13-22, 2014
Spend 12 days immersed in the wild landscape of South Eastern Utah learning about your creative self, the relationship you have with place, and understanding how creative culture is inspired from particular landscapes.
The coursework will combine field lessons through the vastly different terrains of South-eastern Utah exploring both National Parks, Monuments and BLM land with readings, insitu makings and temporary installations. The goal of this combined coursework is to help participants recognize uniquenesses in similar landscapes and how their creative perspective provides an active role in the things each participant makes. A special emphasis is placed on how we understand and experience the natural world, and how these experiences tie our creative expression to social and environmental considerations. Readings will assist by providing a cultural context to these environments drawings from writers who have spent time in the very landscapes we will explore. Documentation and discussion of the work created by participants in Quest will assist in the evolving criticality of the their creative work and their ability to talk about their ideas as well as the ideas of others.
Anyone who's interested in refining and understanding their creative process, who is in a creative field, or would like to pursue a creative profession or work, including design, architecture, landscape architecture, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, writing, and Environmental and Land based sciences.
